Job overview

The post is comprised of 10 programmed activities (PAs), of which 8 are Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2 are Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

The post is based across Northwick Park Hospital and Brent Cross, supporting delivery of glaucoma outpatient services across both sites. The proposed job plan is detailed below; however, it may be subject to change in response to service demand and operational priorities.

The post holder will contribute to a combination of:

  • Face-to-face glaucoma clinics at Northwick Park and Brent Cross
  • Virtual glaucoma review clinics
  • Administrative and SPA activity

The Northwick Park sessions include dedicated glaucoma follow-up clinics, working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues including consultants, optometrists and nursing staff. These clinics require a clinician able to work independently, as a significant proportion of patients require clinical decision-making and management planning.

The Brent Cross sessions include high-volume follow-up glaucoma clinics and virtual review activity, supporting the development of remote patient management pathways and improving access to care.

The post holder will work closely with the glaucoma multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive outpatient service to a diverse patient population across North West London. The role requires the ability to manage patients autonomously within agreed protocols, with appropriate escalation of complex cases.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities would be:

  • Delivery of new and follow up outpatient clinics across face-to-face, virtual and telephone platforms.
  • Supporting scrutiny of new electronic referrals into the Uveitis service
  • Monitoring and resolving with patient queries via service's email inbox.
  • Assisting with triaging of waiting lists as needed.
  • Attending service level teaching when required
  • Supervision and training of Glaucoma Fellows and other trainees at Moorfields
  • Participating in Clinical Audits

A provisional timetable is enclosed, but this will be subject to change in response to service demand.

Working for our organisation

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MEH NHSFT) was founded in 1994 and is the only National Health Service (NHS) trust solely dedicated to delivering ophthalmic care within the United Kingdom (UK). MEH, together with the University College of London (UCL) Institute of Ophthalmology (IOO), is the oldest & largest centre for ophthalmic treatment, research & education in Europe.

With more than 2,500 staff we are proud to be supported by one of the most diverse workforces in the NHS. Every year we treat more than 700,000 patients at City Road in central London and at our 21 satellites sites, and, in partnership with the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre we lead one of the most impactful ophthalmic research programmes in the world.

We train many of the leading eye care clinicians in the UK and internationally and have a global reputation for quality and professionalism in ophthalmic care. In addition, we also operate commercial divisions that provide care to private patients in both London and the Middle East.

This is an exciting time to join Moorfields Eye Hospital. The pandemic fast-tracked a huge amount of innovation which is changing the way we work and deliver care. Construction is under way on Oriel, our new eye care, research, and education centre being built in Camden.
