Geotechnical Engineer

Exeter, Devon | Permanent
Bigger projects. Better sites. Less time on the road. Tired of repetitive residential ground investigations? Fancy getting involved in major reservoirs, water treatment works, flood alleviation schemes and large-scale highways projects instead?
We're working with an established geotechnical consultancy that specialises in supporting major civil engineering and infrastructure projects for some of the UK's leading Tier 1 contractors.
They're looking for a Geotechnical Engineer with around 3–5 years' experience to join their Exeter team.
What makes this opportunity particularly attractive is the combination of genuinely interesting projects, exceptionally well-managed sites and a regional workload covering Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. No endless nationwide travel or spending half your working week living out of a suitcase.
The role
You'll be involved in:
Planning, coordinating and supervising ground investigations.
Overseeing drilling, sampling and site testing activities.
Soil and rock logging and recording ground conditions.
Preparing factual reports and technical documentation.
Liaising with contractors and project teams.
Maintaining excellent health and safety standards on site. What we're looking for
You'll have a relevant degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline, alongside 3–5 years' practical experience in ground investigation or geotechnical engineering.
You'll be comfortable working on site, managing investigations and communicating with contractors and clients.
Relocating to the South West? We'd also welcome applications from engineers looking to make Devon their home.
What's on offer?
£35,000 – £40,000 basic salary.
Paid overtime.
Christmas bonus.
Pension and healthcare.
Major infrastructure projects with leading Tier 1 contractors.
Regional workload across Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. If you're ready to swap repetitive investigations for bigger, more interesting engineering projects, we'd love to hear from you
